Press Release: County Waives Building Fees for Residential Construction and Repairs
At the January 26, 2021 Special Board Meeting the Jackson County Board of County Commissioners elected to provide an incentive to encourage housing development effective for a 6-month period beginning on January 27, 2021 and extending through July 27, 2021. The Board will waive all building permit fees associated with required permits for residential construction and residential remodels. The Board understands the importance of growth for the County and remains committed in assisting Jackson County residents that lived through Hurricane Michael and now COVID-19 to help rebuild our community and boost economic development.
While the fees will be waived, the Florida Building Code and insurance companies require that permits be obtained, and inspections be performed to receive approvals and certificates of occupancy. Building permits are required for new construction, repairs, and additions to single family residences including modular homes. The Board chose to waive the fees associated with the required building permits for residential construction and residential remodels.
You may be eligible for the incentive if you are considering construction of a new single-family residence, a modular home, or if you are performing repairs or improvements to your existing home. The exemptions available are for building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing permits.
