Hurricane Isaias: Update on Federal Disaster Assistance
The Jackson County Board of County Commissioners and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office are providing the following clarification regarding federal disaster assistance related to Hurricane Isaias:
Public Assistance (PA): Approved for Jackson County.
FEMA’s Public Assistance program has been approved for Jackson County. It may provide funding to eligible government entities and certain nonprofit organizations for qualifying storm-related response and recovery costs, including eligible public infrastructure work. This program does not provide direct financial assistance to individual households or for-profit businesses.
Individual Assistance (IA): No declaration is currently pending.
FEMA’s Individual Assistance program may provide assistance to eligible individuals and households affected by a disaster. Individual Assistance for Jackson County has not been ruled out and remains under review; however, no IA declaration is currently pending. Approval of Public Assistance would not automatically authorize Individual Assistance.
We recognize that residents and business owners are seeking clear information about potential recovery resources. Business disaster assistance is addressed through separate programs and eligibility requirements.
If an Individual Assistance declaration is approved for Jackson County, we will promptly share information about available assistance, eligibility requirements, and how to apply.
Please continue to follow the official Jackson County Board of County Commissioners and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office communication channels for updates.
