The Jackson County Tourist Development Council (TDC) aims to promote Jackson County as a
tourist destination to create an economic impact. In recent reports, visitors generated over $30
million in local, state, and federal taxes in Jackson County alone. This equates to approximately
$174 million spent on lodging, food and beverage, shopping, transportation, entertainment, and
recreation.
The TDC works diligently to promote tourism offerings in Jackson County, including our outdoor
recreational amenities, tourism-related businesses, and events that bring visitors to our
communities. Visitor guides, brochures, maps, and other information about exploring Jackson
County can be found at the Jackson County Visitor Center, located at the Historic Russ House

The TDC’s funding comes from a 5% tourist development tax, otherwise known as the “bed tax,”
on all overnight lodging accommodations such as hotels, Airbnbs, campgrounds, and other
short-term rental accommodations. The TDC is the only self-funded department within the
County government and must abide by the guidelines set forth in Florida Statute 125.0104.
TDC staff recommend work programming to the Tourist Development Council board, which
comprises a 9-member advisory board. These recommendations are reviewed by the Board and
sent to the Board of County Commissioners for final approval.
