Jackson County BOCC Regular Meeting Highlights
Jackson County, FL. – On November 1, 2022, at 9:00 am, the Jackson County Board of County Commissioners held a Regular Meeting. This is a recap of some of the reports and requests included in that meeting.
REQUEST: Advertise Phase 2B/Indian Springs Sewer
Deputy County Administrator, Rett Daniels, requested board approval to advertise for construction associated with Phase 2 of the Indian Springs Sewer Project. This would be for a large section of the service area in the Appalachee Trail area. The Board approved this request.
REQUEST: Review of Financial Advisor Proposal/Pooser Road Housing
Administrative Services Director, Hunter Potts, requested Board review of a proposal from a financial advisor on the Pooser Road Housing Project. Based on a recommendation from Nabors and Giblin, County staff recently met with a Financial Advisory company, PRAG (Public Resources Advisory Group). The proposal is to review all the documents for the housing project so far, then present a best-case feasibility report, and subsequently walk the County through potential avenues to be successful with the project. It is essentially a pro vs. con. The Board concluded that due to the County’s current standing in the project timeline, that an agreement with PRAG is not necessary at this stage of the project. The Board voted to reject the offer from PRAG and reevaluate and refine the MOU from the original developer, Valliant, and move forward from there.
REQUEST: Set a Public Hearing/Supplemental Budget
Budget Officer, Sarah Sun, requested Board approval to set a public hearing for the adoption of Supplemental Budget for Fiscal Year 21-22 for November 22, 2022 at 9:15am. The Board approved this request.
Shane Abbott
State Representative, Shane Abbott, was present, and addressed the Board saying, “… I’m excited about the opportunity to get to work with this Board and staff and figure out what your needs and priorities are this year, so I can take them to Tallahassee. I look forward to being successful for Jackson County this year in the Legislative session.” The Board thanked him, and later requested that he prioritize the State’s treatment of Merritt’s Mill Pond.
REQUEST: Approval to Set Public Hearing/Holiday Inn Express
On October 17, 2022, the Planning Commission recommended approval to the Board of County Commissioners. At this meeting, a request was made to set a public hearing on November 22, 2022 at 9am for a General Development Order to construct a 57,063 square foot building to be known as Holiday Inn Express and construction of a 42,944 square foot vehicular use area and sidewalks. This project will be located on the east side of Hwy 71 South approximately .36 miles south for the I-10 corridor in unincorporated Jackson County. The Board approved this request.
