Hometown Revitalization Program

The Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) is making available $60 million in CDBG-DR funding to local governments impacted by Hurricane Michael through the Rebuild Florida Hometown Revitalization Program. This public notice is to solicit citizen comments on the proposed application for the City of Cottondale. The public comment period begins on April 15, 2021 and ends on April 30, 2021 at 5 p.m. CST. This application is being prepared with support from Jackson County. The application is also available for review at Jackson County Board of County Commission Administrative Offices located at: 2864 Madison St, Marianna, FL 32448 or at Cottondale City Hall (2659 Front Street).

The City of Cottondale is seeking $1,691,221.46 to assist with commercial revitalization of the Highway 231 corridor. With this funding, the City plans to voluntary acquire and demolish commercial properties at the following addresses:

3302 Main Street

3159 Main Street

3165 Main Street

3162 Main Street

3166 Main Street

In addition, the City plans to voluntarily acquire and rehabilitate a commercial structure located at: 2634 Levy Street (formerly a Mexican Restaurant). The County will rehabilitate this structure for future use. Project costs may include but are not limited to: activities associated with the acquisition and purchase of the real estate, demolition or rehabilitation of the structure including all activities associated with structural repair and code compliance and building façade improvements to the outside of the structure and improvements to other facilities on the parcel. 

Finally, the City proposes to repair and resurface its public parking lot, located adjacent to City Hall.

The City of Cottondale does not anticipate that anyone will be displaced because of the CDBG-DR funded activities proposed above. If persons are displaced because of the planned activities, the City of Cottondale will assist in compliance with anti-displacement and relocation policies.
