Public Workshop Scheduled for Jackson County Data Center Ordinance Review
The Jackson County Community Development Department invites residents to attend an introductory public workshop on Thursday, November 12, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Central Time at the Jackson County Agriculture Extension Complex in Marianna.
The workshop will provide information about the County’s existing data center ordinance, the ongoing review of land development regulations, and opportunities for public input.
Background and Purpose
On June 23, 2026, the Board of County Commissioners adopted an ordinance prohibiting data centers and associated facilities within unincorporated Jackson County. This prohibition remains in effect.
As part of the same ordinance, the Board directed County staff to review the Comprehensive Plan and Land Development Code and prepare proposed amendments addressing the potential siting, design, regulation, and impacts of large-scale data centers and large-load customer facilities.
The review includes considerations such as land use compatibility, utility infrastructure and capacity, water resources, environmental protection, noise, traffic, emergency services, and public safety.
The November 12 workshop is intended to provide residents with information, explain the ordinance and potential regulatory considerations, answer questions, and gather community feedback.
The workshop is not a meeting to approve a data center or repeal the existing prohibition. No formal Board action will be taken at this workshop. Any future changes to the existing prohibition would require separate action by the Board of County Commissioners.
